U.S. Government Fails to Respond to the Killing of American-Palestinian Teen Nasrallah Abu Siyam

Washington, D.C. | www.mpac.org | February 27, 2026 — The Muslim Public Affairs Council condemns in the strongest terms the killing of Nasrallah Mohammed Jamal Abu Siyam, a 19-year-old Palestinian American who was fatally shot in the occupied West Bank by Israeli settlers. The killing of an American citizen abroad demands an immediate and serious response from the United States government. When a young American’s life is taken under circumstances that raise grave concerns about civilian protection and impunity, silence and delay are unacceptable.

It has now been more than five days since Nasrallah was murdered, and there has been no meaningful public accountability. The State Department’s position that it is “monitoring the situation” is insufficient. Monitoring is not an action. The U.S. government has a responsibility to pursue the facts, ensure transparency, and seek accountability when an American citizen is killed.

MPAC calls on Congress to speak out clearly and act without delay. Members of Congress must demand decisive engagement from the Administration and ensure that this case receives the full weight of U.S. diplomatic and legal attention.

Additionally, MPAC calls on Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Attorney General Pam Bondi to initiate and support a fully independent, transparent, and credible investigation into Nasrallah Abu Siyam’s murder. Such an investigation must include the preservation of evidence, thorough witness interviews, and public reporting of findings that are consistent with due process and the rule of law.

Nasrallah deserves justice, his family deserves answers, and the American public deserves transparency. The United States must demonstrate through concrete action that the lives and rights of all Americans are protected without exception.

MPAC will continue to press Congress and the Administration to uphold their duty to protect U.S. citizens and to ensure that Palestinian Americans are not treated as exceptions to that duty.
