MPAC Strongly Condemns Unauthorized U.S. Strikes on Iran, Urges Immediate De-Escalation and Congressional Oversight

Washington, D.C. | www.mpac.org | February 28, 2026 — The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) condemns the administration’s decision to launch U.S. military strikes on Iran, escalating the region toward a wider war without the consent of the American people or Congress. Recent polling shows Americans broadly oppose initiating military action against Iran, and the administration’s decision reflects a dangerous willingness to substitute public interest with the demands of foreign policy agendas driven by the Israeli government rather than the needs and security of Americans.

The human cost is already devastating. Reporting from the region indicates civilian casualties, including at least 50 innocent schoolchildren, in the wake of these attacks. U.S. leaders cannot be oblivious to the global consequences of war, nor neglect their responsibility to prevent the violence that fuels hatred and instability for generations.

MPAC rejects any strategy that risks repeating the destabilizing interventions of the past and worsening the repression of the Iranian people. Americans should not be drawn into policies that entrench chaos, prolong suffering, and increase dangers for civilians and U.S. forces across the region. This administration remains steadfast in its support of Israel while continuing to push for regime change in Iran. Israel does not want to see a prosperous, independent Iran; it prefers a weakened state — whether through a compliant repressive regime or prolonged internal conflict.

This escalation also reflects a war economy mindset that diverts attention and resources from the essential needs of working families. America needs a just economy that makes people secure and able to plan for the future, not endless conflict abroad.

Finally, the Constitution is clear. The power to declare war belongs to Congress. Bypassing Congress further erodes constitutional governance and blocks democratic accountability. If members of Congress choose to authorize war, they must do so transparently and answer to their constituents, including in the upcoming midterm elections.

We pray for the safety of innocent civilians in Iran and across the region, and we call for immediate de-escalation and a swift return to diplomacy.
