MPAC Vehemently Condemns Shootings Targeting Michigan Synagogue and Old Dominion University Today

Washington, D.C. | www.mpac.org | March 12, 2026— The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) strongly condemns the tragic acts of violence reported today at Old Dominion University and the attack targeting Temple Israel in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan. We mourn the life lost and pray for the recovery of those injured. Our hearts are with the victims, their families, the Old Dominion University community, and the Jewish community shaken by these disturbing events.

Universities and houses of worship are sacred spaces within our society. They are places meant for learning, reflection, and prayer—not violence. The sanctity of religious institutions and academic campuses must be protected, and no one should ever fear for their safety while studying, teaching, or worshiping.

At moments like this, our nation faces a critical choice. We can either allow fear and speculation to divide us, or we can respond with unity and responsibility. Unfortunately, some voices have already rushed to exploit tragedy to target entire communities before the facts are even fully known. We urge public figures and commentators to refrain from inflammatory rhetoric and allow local law enforcement and the FBI to complete a full and transparent investigation.

This is not a moment for blame or political opportunism. It is a moment for solidarity.

MPAC stands in solidarity with the Jewish community, the Old Dominion University community, and all those impacted by today’s violence. We call on leaders at every level to work together to confront hatred, protect houses of worship and educational institutions, and uphold the dignity and security of every community in our nation.
