MPAC Condemns Stabbing of Punjabi Sikh Truck Driver in Wyoming

Washington, D.C. | www.mpac.org | September 18, 2026 — MPAC condemns the brutal stabbing of a Punjabi Sikh truck driver at a rest stop in Wyoming and stands in solidarity with Mr. Singh, his family, and the broader Sikh and South Asian American community.

Just one week before this attack, the Department of Homeland Security published a post that used a common Sikh surname as a derogatory reference to truck drivers. The post, which has since been taken down, depicted the character Optimus Prime from the Transformers franchise facing a man alongside the phrases, “America for Americans,” “Self-deport or find out,” and “Get off our roads, you don’t know how to drive, Mr. Singh.”

The timing of this rhetoric and the violent attack against Mr. Singh has understandably heightened fear among Sikh and South Asian truck drivers. While authorities have not established a motive for the stabbing, the incident underscores the real-world consequences of rhetoric that portrays immigrants and religious minorities as outsiders who do not belong.

This pattern of rhetoric from the administration, targeting Hispanic, Sikh, Muslim, and other minority communities, has no place in a country that values the dignity and belonging of all its people.

MPAC previously amplified this call to action developed by the Sikh Coalition to ask your elected officials in Congress to demand answers from DHS and speak out against this latest campaign of fear and profiling targeting Sikh and South Asian communities.
