The 2024 DHS Homeland Threat Assessment explicitly concludes that “racially or ethnically motivated violent extremists—particularly white supremacists—continue to pose the most persistent and lethal threat to the homeland.” Similarly, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) reported in 2022 that two-thirds of terrorist attacks on U.S. soil since 2015 were perpetrated by individuals linked to far-right ideology, not by Muslims or Islamic groups.

The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) welcomes this development as a critical step to halt further bloodshed and ease human suffering. Yet, this pause must serve as a bridge to a lasting ceasefire, not merely a momentary reprieve.

For Immediate Release: MPAC analysis shows Minnesota Shooter Sought to Copy Anti-Muslim Killers

On August 27, 23-year-old Robin Westman opened fire inside the church at Annunciation Catholic School with a rifle, shotgun, and pistol, killing two children, ages 8 and 10, and wounding 17 others before dying by suicide at the scene.

The massacre, now under investigation as an act of domestic terrorism and a potential hate crime, has shaken the Minneapolis community and reignited concerns about the rise of far-right violence in the United States.
