MPAC Condemns Deadly Michigan Church Shooting, Highlights Growing Threats to Religious Institutions

Washington, D.C. | www.mpac.org | September 28, 2025 —The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) is heartbroken by the tragic shooting at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Michigan. We mourn the lives lost and extend our deepest condolences to the victims, their families, and the LDS community. No one should ever fear for their safety while in prayer or in a sacred space.

Today’s shooting is part of a disturbing rise in violence targeting houses of worship across the United States. From the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, to the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, to churches in Texas, Alabama, and Minnesota, we have seen how hate and white supremacy continue to fuel devastating attacks. These tragedies not only rob communities of their loved ones but also strike at the very heart of religious freedom that is so essential to American democracy.

We stand in solidarity with our LDS brothers and sisters during this painful time and call on leaders at every level to address the root causes of hate and violence. MPAC remains committed to working with interfaith partners, policymakers, and communities to confront rising hate crimes, protect sacred spaces, and uphold a society built on dignity, compassion, and justice for all.
