First Amendment Resource Guide for Educators

Protecting Our Educators, Defending Our Classrooms

The Muslim Public Affairs Council’s First Amendment Center is dedicated to protecting educators, students, and community members whose rights to free expression, religious freedom, and equal treatment are under attack. We believe that when educators feel safe to teach truthfully and authentically, without fear of retaliation or discrimination, our students and our democracy thrive.

Across the nation, educators have faced growing pressure and retaliation for teaching about race, religion, or social justice. Some have been disciplined or removed from their positions for expressing solidarity with marginalized communities, while others experience bias based on their perceived faith or national origin. This climate of fear not only silences educators but also weakens students’ constitutional rights to learn in inclusive and truthful environments.

Part of our mission is to defend the First Amendment in the classroom and to protect those who teach, speak, and lead with integrity. Through advocacy, training, and partnerships, we aim to ensure that educators of all backgrounds, particularly Muslim, Arab, and allied educators, can serve their students without discrimination or censorship.
