Tell the Scarsdale Board: Protect Free Speech for All Students

Recent incidents have raised serious concerns about unequal treatment, selective enforcement, and inconsistent application of district policies related to political expression, cultural identity, and access to school spaces in the Scarsdale School District.

  • The Muslim Youth Club’s request to host its Annual Iftar Dinner in the SHS Learning Commons was denied, forcing students to move the event off campus

  • At Jabberfest, a student delivered political remarks calling for an end to war and violence and faced potential disciplinary action, while a Friends of the IDF affiliated event was approved and promoted by the district.

  • A middle school student wearing a keffiyeh and pro-peace clothing faced significant harassment, cyberbullying, and administrative escalation by parents and school officials. In a separate incident, a school employee was required to remove a Palestinian flag pin while Israeli flags reportedly remained displayed in school offices.

  • When flyers for an Israeli Culture Club event were vandalized, the administration took swift action. Yet, no immediate action was taken to address the political framing of the materials which depicted the West Bank and Golan Heights as part of Israel.

  • Public commentary and official responses have, in some cases, failed to address concerns raised by Muslim, Arab, and pro-Palestinian students and families with equal seriousness and consistency.

These incidents reflect a broader need for clarity, consistency, and viewpoint neutrality in how the district governs student expression and access to school spaces.

We’re calling on our community and constituents to send a letter to the Board of Education and District Administrators. Send a letter below:
