MPAC Monitoring Reported Attack Targeting Islamic Center of San Diego

Washington, D.C. | www.mpac.org | May 18, 2026 —The Muslim Public Affairs Council is closely monitoring reports of an active shooter incident at the Islamic Center of San Diego.

We are devastated by reports that there are already victims. We are praying for the safety and well-being of congregants, students, families, educators, and first responders on the scene.

As details continue to emerge, we urge the public and media to avoid speculation while law enforcement responds and emergency personnel continue assisting those affected.

Houses of worship and schools should never become sites of fear or violence. We recommend they immediately increase security. MPAC remains in contact with local community leaders via our Security Bulletin, to highlight recent incidents and provide guidance to help communities and institutions stay informed and prepared, and will continue monitoring developments as more information becomes available.
