MPAC Condemns Anti-Muslim Stabbing in Utah As Anti-Muslim Rhetoric Online and in Public Discourse Continues to Escalate
Washington, D.C. | www.mpac.org | July 15, 2026 — The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) strongly condemns the hateful stabbing of a Muslim man in West Valley City, Utah. We pray for the victim's full recovery and call on law enforcement to ensure the perpetrator is held fully accountable.
According to investigators, the suspect stated that he targeted the victim because of his religion. This disturbing attack is yet another reminder of the alarming rise in anti-Muslim hate across the United States. Such acts of violence have no place in our country.
For months, anti-Muslim rhetoric has intensified online, in political discourse, and across public platforms. When hateful narratives are normalized, they create an environment that emboldens those willing to commit acts of violence. If left unchallenged, this climate of hate will continue to endanger American Muslims and other vulnerable communities.
At moments like this, our nation faces a choice: remain silent as hatred escalates or stand united in defense of the principles that define America. Religious hate crimes must never be tolerated. MPAC has repeatedly documented the rise of anti-Muslim rhetoric not just online, but in the halls of Congress, amplified by sitting elected officials and caucuses like the Sharia Free America Caucus.
Public officials, media figures, and online platforms all have a responsibility to reject inflammatory rhetoric rather than amplify it, while allowing law enforcement to communicate verified information during active investigations.
MPAC stands in solidarity with the victim and all those unjustly targeted because of their faith. We call on Members of Congress and the Administration to call out this anti-Muslim hatred, reject rhetoric that fuels violence, and uphold the dignity, constitutional rights, and security of every person, regardless of their religious beliefs.
