As the White House and the State Department create and publicly share our nation’s foreign policy, it is partially predicated on the notion that our nation is privileged with the moral high ground and therefore can take preemptive action. However, for decades that foreign policy has only strategically emphasized human rights abroad. Our longstanding allies commit unthinkable acts of violence without being checked and that must stop. At our inaugural collaborative National American Muslim Policy Conference, MPAC President, Salam Al-Marayati and CEO of Emgage, Wa'el Alzayat, sat down with Peter Beinart, Professor of Journalism and Political Science, University of New York, Samar Ali, Research Professor, Vanderbilt Project on Unity, and Jonathan Finer, Deputy National Security Advisor to discuss the issue what needs to be done going forward. MPAC co-hosted the inaugural National American Muslim Policy Conference which brought together elected officials, experts, and leaders from across the nation to discuss our community's policy priorities and needs. We are proud to have worked alongside American Muslim Health Professionals, Institute for Social Policy and Understanding, Illinois Muslim Civic Coalition, and Emgage Action as part of the Community Collaborative Initiative. The Community Collaborative Initiative, a community-based action research project hosted by Indiana University's Lilly School of Philanthropy, we cordially invite you to participate in the inaugural National American Muslim Policy Conference. ---------- Subscribe to MPAC's channel: http://bit.ly/MPACYouTube Like MPAC on Facebook: http://fb.com/mpacnational Follow MPAC on Twitter: http://twitter.com/mpac_national Follow MPAC on Instagram: http://instagram.com/mpac_national Visit MPAC's website: http://mpac.org About the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) We improve public understanding and policies that impact American Muslims by engaging our government, media, and communities. Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan Visits Southern California

Videos
On May 13, 2022 By MPAC
The Los Angeles American Muslim community gathered at the Islamic Center of Southern California (ICSC) to hear from Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, as he addressed the community of Los Angeles in a gathering that perfectly illustrated the spirit of Surat Al-Hajarut 49:13: Men and women from the most pluralistic faith group in America, with every race and ethnicity represented, joined together to hear from the first Muslim Mayor of one of the world’s most diverse cities. As the world emerged from the lockdowns of the COVID pandemic, Mayor Sadiq Khan embarked upon a tour of several major American cities renowned globally as epicenters of finance, tech and film as part of an effort to unite communities and nations in the post-pandemic world. In Los Angeles, he learned about our work in fighting for representation in Hollywood and transforming the narrative on Islam and Muslims. This event was representative of all our community has achieved and indicative of the future that lays before us. And there is one message the Mayor wanted to leave with our community, “When we celebrate and champion our diversity, rather than view it with suspicion. We choose hope over fear, and unity over division.” ---------- Subscribe to MPAC's channel: http://bit.ly/MPACYouTube Like MPAC on Facebook: http://fb.com/mpacnational Follow MPAC on Twitter: http://twitter.com/mpac_national Follow MPAC on Instagram: http://instagram.com/mpac_national Visit MPAC's website: http://mpac.org About the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) We improve public understanding and policies that impact American Muslims by engaging our government, media, and communities. This conversation at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival was presented by the Muslim Public Affairs Council's Hollywood Bureau and the Islamic Scholarship Fund (ISF) for the second annual Muslim House. The panel brought together invited participants from Islamic Scholarship Fund (ISF) and MPAC - Hakeem Khaaliq, Iman Zawahry, Sami Khan, Muna Deria, Queen Muhammad Ali, and Tarek Albaba. Together these filmmakers discussed their film journey from start to finish, including how they got their projects financed while navigating the inherent barriers that all unrepresented creatives face. Also discussed was how both organizations work to build creative pipelines in order to reframe the narrative and transform the industry. Moderated by Sireen Sawaf with opening remarks by Sue Obeidi, Director of MPAC's Hollywood Bureau. ---------- Subscribe to MPAC's channel: http://bit.ly/MPACYouTube Like MPAC on Facebook: http://fb.com/mpacnational Follow MPAC on Twitter: http://twitter.com/mpac_national Follow MPAC on Instagram: http://instagram.com/mpac_national Visit MPAC's website: http://mpac.org About the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) We improve public understanding and policies that impact American Muslims by engaging our government, media, and communities.
