For Naturalized U.S. Citizens
Naturalized American Muslims and other naturalized citizens have full constitutional protections.
Key Facts:
- Citizenship cannot be taken away casually or without a formal court process
- Denaturalization is rare and limited to specific legal circumstances involving fraud or misrepresentation
- Denaturalization requires due process and the opportunity to be represented by legal counsel
Optional Documents to Keep Organized:
If it provides peace of mind, you may keep copies of:
- Certificate of Naturalization or Certificate of Citizenship
- U.S. passport
- Copy of Form N-400 (naturalization application)
- Copy of Form N-445 (notice of naturalization oath ceremony)
- Government-issued photo ID (driver's license or state ID)
IMPORTANT
You are NOT required to carry proof of citizenship in daily life. If having documentation provides peace of mind, it is best to carry copies rather than original documents.
