From organizing a legal symposium about legal threats facing our community at the UC Irvine School of Law and a policy forum on blasphemy and religious freedom at the Newseum, to collective action on the Muslim Ban and discussing guidelines on religious freedom with the Department of Justice, we brought people, communities, and organizations together to discuss how we can improve policies affecting American Muslims. came together last week to amplify the voices of all vulnerable communities asking for awareness and accountability in protecting our civic rights under this administration. We cannot be fighting each other. That is exactly what ISIS wants. They see this issue as a war between Islam and the West. The more you fuel that rhetoric, the more you play into their hands. ISIS represents cruelty. Islam represents mercy. ISIS represents destructive behavior. Islam says to go and build a civilization. American Muslims are part of the solution. That sizes ISIS down. That puts them in their place. They are nothing more than a mafia and criminals that use the veneer of religion to support their cruel, barbaric practices.

Los Angeles stands as an example of unity over bigotry. This is Salam Al-Marayati's testimony for the passing of the resolution.
