  • Serving your Fellow Muslims

    One of the most engaging ways of communicating your message to your fellow Muslims is by going to them and asking the question: How can we help you? Last Saturday night, I Am Change Fellow Abeer Gaber and Community Outreach Fellow Marwa Abdelghani went to Masjid Taqwa in Altadena, CA to do just that. The community members of the area reflected a deep passion in wanting their mosque to grow and develop. They welcomed MPAC’s extended hand in wanting to assist the mosque in any way possible.

  • Change is Brewing in Simi Valley

    Last Sunday, Aug. 24th 2014, MPAC President Salam Al-Marayati and I facilitated an MPAC “I Am Change” workshop with nearly thirty members of the Islamic Society of Simi Valley in Simi Valley, CA. I Am Change is an interactive three-hour civic leadership workshop created to educate and empower American Muslims with the skills to become responsible and active citizens.

  • Gaza Teach-In Sheds Light on Evidence of Israeli War Crimes

    On Sunday, MPAC President Salam Al-Marayati moderated a panel discussion at the Islamic Center of Southern California called “Gaza Teach-In: War Crimes and Settler Colonialism,” between two experts on the crisis. Palestinian Professor George Bisharat of UC Berkeley School of Law and Israeli Professor Gabriel Pieterberg of UCLA's Center for Near Eastern Studies discussed exposed how Israel’s military campaign violates countless international laws and also is rooted in settler colonialism.

  • MPAC Promotes Unity & Civic Engagement at Orange County EidFest

    Last Saturday, MPAC took part in Orange County’s Annual Eid Festival held in Anaheim, CA. Attended by thousands, the event featured table displays from dozens of organizations, as well as their efforts in providing a celebration for the holiday.   • Al-Marayati Continues 'Medina Constitution' Lecture Series at Masjid Bilal in L.A.

    The Bilal Islamic Center in south Los Angeles hosted MPAC President Salam Al-Marayati last weekend for a talk about the parallels between the Medina Constitution and the U.S. Constitution. The Medina Constitution is the social contract created between the Prophet Muhammad with leaders of other faith communities.

    My aspirations for making the dreams of our future Muslim generations come true plays a large role in my field of work, community outreach. I hope to bring MPAC to different communities outside of Los Angeles in order to help them get involved in the kind of work that we do. I strongly believe that American Muslims must be at the table, lest they will be on the menu. In order to relieve the U.S. from the stereotypes and Islamophobia targeting Muslims, we must put ourselves in the nerve centers that make the major decisions for our communities.

  • Government & Policy Summit Brings Rising Stars to DC

    Last week, 15 American Muslim college and graduate students from around the country traveled to Washington, DC, for MPAC’s 8th annual Government and Policy Summit. Over four days, they had the unique opportunity to learn about the policy-making process through high-level meetings with various leaders at the White House, federal agencies, Congress, think tanks and civic groups. Plus, they participated in leadership development workshops and learned about opportunities for their own career development in the arena of policymaking.
