MPAC Delivers Testimony on Religious Freedom Violations at USCIRF Hearing

November 23, 2024 Updated November 22, 2024 News & Updates

This week, our Vice President of Policy and Programming, Haris Tarin, testified before the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) about the egregious violations of religious freedom committed by non-state actors worldwide. In his testimony, Haris highlighted the alarming rise in transnational repression and the increasing collaboration between extremist groups across borders:

“Hate is no longer contained within borders. Religious freedom is a God-given right, and we must call out its violations wherever they occur—even in nations we consider allies or partners.”

In his testimony, Haris underscored how non-state actors, fueled by unchecked nationalism and online hate, are targeting vulnerable religious communities globally. From the desecration of mosques and churches in the occupied Palestinian territories to the alarming alliance between Hindu nationalist forces in India and Zionist extremists, these violations demand urgent action.

At MPAC, we remain steadfast in our commitment to standing against hate and advocating for justice in every public policy space where we have a voice. From testifying at USCIRF to engaging with government leaders and amplifying these issues in the media, we are determined to fight for the values of religious freedom and human dignity.
