About MPAC Foundation

MPAC Foundation’s mission is to engage in the research and development of issues related to human rights, democracy and pluralism; to educate all Americans regarding the teachings of Islam; and to serve the Muslim American community and promote the Islamic values of mercy, justice, peace, human dignity, freedom and equality for all.

Donations to MPAC Foundation are 100% tax deductible and zakat eligible. Donations can be made by check, credit card, or securities and may be pledged for billing by December 31st. Automatic withdrawal schedules can also be established. As a matter of policy, MPAC Foundation does not accept any funding from foreign governments or individuals. The political and financial independence of the Foundation relies on your financial support to sustain its activities, represent the sentiments and interests of Muslim Americans and sustain the future of Islam in America.

How is MPAC Eligible for Zakat?

1. WHAT THE QURAN SAYS

The offering given for the sake of God are [meant] only for:

1. the poor and the needy 
2. those who are in charge thereof, and
3. those whose hearts are to be won over, and
4. for freeing of people from bondage, and
5. [for] those over burdened by debt, and
6. for [every struggle] in God’s cause, and
7. for the wayfarers;

[This is] an ordinance from God, and God is all knowing, wise.”
-- Surah At-Taubah 9:60

2. UNDERSTANDING THE MESSAGE

Understanding this verse through the lens of our current time and place, zakat should be used within the following categories:

1. directly support the poor and needy
2. alleviate the cost of the administration of income and expenditure
3. provide for public relations initiatives to win the hearts and minds of others and to neutralize the animosity against Islam in the media, entertainment industry, think tanks, and in academia
4. help liberate the enslaved and oppressed in all their contemporary manifestations
5. help those who are struggling under debt
6. for every effort to serve the cause of God in establishing justice, emanating mercy, and guarding the freedom and dignity of all
7. help those who have been deprived of the dignity and security of a home (e.g. homeless, refugees, and the seekers of political asylum)

3. APPLYING IT TODAY

MPAC Foundation’s work is applicable in the following zakat categories:

The third category contemporarily applies to the public relations work that is done in building bridges, and in winning over the hearts and minds of decision makers who have a better understanding of Islam.

The fourth category is justified by the Foundation’s advocacy on freedom and human rights, recent examples of which are domestic immigration, the Arab Spring and sustainable solutions for Afghanistan and Pakistan. 

The sixth category as indicated by a majority of jurists is not limited to the issue of physical struggle. The Foundation works to educate all Americans regarding the teachings of Islam, to serve the Muslim American community and promote the Islamic values of mercy, justice, peace, human dignity, freedom and equality for all.

The seventh category contemporarily refers to the problems of the homeless and refugees, at home and abroad. The Foundation consistently strives for an end to homelessness and the right of return of all refugees.
