This timely show provides a much-needed counter-narrative to the stereotyping and dehumanizing of the Muslim community that we have felt so deeply. It deftly addresses racial stereotyping, the pain of incarceration, and the emotional and financial impact they can have on American Muslim families. The Night Of’s co-creator and director, Steven Zaillian will be accepting the award. Zaillian is the Oscar Winning screenwriter of Schindler’s List, and has received Oscar nominations for his screenplays Gangs of New York, Moneyball, and Awakenings. He is currently adapting the screenplay of A Thousand Splendid Suns from the acclaimed novel by Khaled Hosseini.
