  • Muslim, Arab-American Groups Call on 9/11 Museum to Edit 'Insufficiently Vetted' Film

    April 24, 2014
    A coalition of American Muslim and Arab-American organizations (see list below) today urged the National September 11 Memorial Museum to consider editing a planned film presentation, "The Rise of Al Qaeda," because it may lead viewers to wrongly conclude that that the entire faith of Islam is responsible for the 2001 terror attacks.

  • 'Jinn' Stars MPAC Media Award Honoree Faran Tahir

  • Intersection of Spirituality & Social Justice Brought Ncube to MPAC

    This past fall and currently this spring term, Gabbi Ncube has been interning with MPAC in communication, marketing and media. Originally from Tempe, AZ, Ncube is a third year student at Occidental College in Los Angeles. She is working toward her major in media arts and culture, with a focus on media production and screenwriting, and a minor in critical theory and social justice.

    On Monday, March 3, the “Dr. Phil Show” aired an episode called “I’m Worried My Daughter May Turn into a Terrorist” which featured Edina Lekovic, MPAC's Director of Policy and Programming. The segment focuses on a mother and daughter, Darlene and Abby, who became estranged after the daughter converted to Islam two years ago. Lekovic sheds light on the teachings of Islam and dispels misconceptions about Muslims.

  • Court Ruling in Favor of NYPD Surveillance Further Erodes Civil Liberties

    February 24, 2014
    MPAC expressed its disappointment with a federal ruling that the New York Police Department’s (NYPD) surveillance of Muslims in New Jersey was “a lawful effort to prevent terrorism.” Eight plaintiffs brought the suit against New York City, claiming that the NYPD infringed on their civil liberties with its mass surveillance of Muslim communities in New Jersey.

    On Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, Riham Osman, MPAC’s Washington, DC, Program Assistant, joined eight Americans across the country for the first “Virtual Road Trip with President Barack Obama on Google+” Hangout three days after his State of the Union address. From the Roosevelt Room of the White House, President Obama responded directly to questions posed by diverse Americans about issues he laid out in his speech.
