  • 'The Light in Her Eyes' Premieres Thursday (7/19) on PBS

    On Thursday, July 19, “The Light in Her Eyes,” will have its national broadcast premiere at 10 p.m. on PBS. The touching documentary, follows Houda al-Habash, a Muslim Syrian woman who, at the age of 17, goes against tradition and opens a Quran school for girls in a downtown mosque.

  • Tunisia and Egypt: A Tale of Two Transitions to Democracy

    The Arab Spring has produced several prominent political actors, especially in Tunisia and Egypt. In Tunisia, the post-revolution democratically elected government is run by an-Nahda, a moderate Muslim party led by Rachid Ghannouchi. The post-revolution Egyptian parliament (before it was dissolved) was controlled by the Muslim Brotherhood and this week, the projected winner for president is Mohamed Morsi, also from the Muslim Brotherhood.

    The physical internment of Japanese Americans was a psychological internment of all Americans; it defined a moment in which the strength of our diverse American fabric became compromised. The fact that we allowed our fear to dictate our nation’s moral compass in 1942 is appalling. As history often repeats itself, we must caution ourselves from going down the same path of instituting irresponsible policies based on fear.

  • MPAC Concerned by Blasphemy Punishments in Kuwait

    MPAC commends the Emir of Kuwait for vetoing yesterday legislation passed by the Parliament that intended to revise its anti-blasphemy laws. The new amendments mandate the death penalty or life impronsement for Muslims who refuse to repent after having been found legally guilty of disparaging God, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), his wives or the Quran.

  • Tennessee Ruling against Mosque Construction is a Ruling against Religious Freedom Across America

    Rather than upholding the precious values and laws written in the Constitution, this week, a judge in Tennessee ruled against the building of a mosque in Murfreesboro, TN. The First Amendment unequivocally states that government is prohibited from establishing a national religion or denying Americans their right to exercise (or not) their faith.

  • MPAC Congratulates First Muslim Judge Appointed in California

    May 18, 2012
    MPAC sends it congratulations today to Halim Dhanidina, the first Muslim judge to be appointed in the state of California. In a press release earlier today, the office of Gov. Jerry Brown announced that eight judges, including Dhanidina, have been appointed to judgeships in the state’s superior court.
