In late March, MPAC hosted a “Let’s Be Honest” forum with the Muslim Youth Group (MYG) of the Islamic Center of Southern California (ICSC). With the intent of tackling taboo topics such as drugs and alcohol, premarital sex and homosexuality, the forum, for the first time, brought together a panel of MYG members and elders.

This past fall and currently this spring term, Gabbi Ncube has been interning with MPAC in communication, marketing and media. Originally from Tempe, AZ, Ncube is a third year student at Occidental College in Los Angeles. She is working toward her major in media arts and culture, with a focus on media production and screenwriting, and a minor in critical theory and social justice. -

As Women's History month draws to a close, MPAC and the White House recognized American Muslim women and their accomplishments in the fields of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), business development, government, communications and entrepreneurship. Today's event brought together more than 70 successful women from across the country to the White House. -

Through a survey created by the University of Nevada, Reno, and the University of Massachusetts Lowell and helped framed by MPAC, the community is invited to share their thoughts in an effort to make our communities safer and foster a stronger relationship. -

Laila Alawa, a 2012 graduate from Wellesley College in psychology and education studies, is MPAC's Spring Government and Public Policy Intern in the Washington, DC, office. Through her research and work post-graduation at Princeton University, Alawa realized she wanted to devote her time to working for the American Muslim community, which led her to move to DC to pursue her dreams of public policy, media and social enterprise and find a home at MPAC. -

On March 15, 2014, more than 80 women and girls gathered for the successful 2nd Annual Women and Girls Retreat co-sponsored by MPAC, the Islamic Center of Irvine (ICOI) and New Horizon Irvine (NHI). Focusing on the theme of “Making Our Voices Heard,” nine dynamic and inspiring speakers shared their knowledge and know-how to empower the participants to be inspired by the legacy of women before them, identify their dreams, support each other to pursue them, and be able to share their stories effectively. -

On Monday, March 3, the “Dr. Phil Show” aired an episode called “I’m Worried My Daughter May Turn into a Terrorist” which featured Edina Lekovic, MPAC's Director of Policy and Programming. The segment focuses on a mother and daughter, Darlene and Abby, who became estranged after the daughter converted to Islam two years ago. Lekovic sheds light on the teachings of Islam and dispels misconceptions about Muslims. -
