Mohammed Kemal: An Intern with Political & Geographic Goals
July 17, 2013

Mohammed Kemal, a Summer 2013 Government Intern in Washington, DC, began his journey at Towson University where he realized his passion for helping others. After one year, Kemal transferred to University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) to pursue a career as a structural civil engineer.
Kemal hopes to achieve his life goal of pursuing a master's degree. Though he is still narrowing down a future field of study, he said he hopes that his internship with MPAC will provide him with an opportunity to work on aspects of structural civil engineering, geographic information systems and politics.
In addition to engineering, Kemal is also pursuing a global poverty minor. He was a Georectification Intern, with hopes that it could help society, particularly in developing countries abroad. The georectification method allows researchers, farmers and investors to locate and ultimately decide whether a certain area of land will be conducive to successful vegetation. Georectification could potentially alleviate world hunger.
Kemal has continued to engage himself in his new community at UMD by serving as Public Relations Officer for both UMD’s Muslim Student Association and Muslims Without Borders in the 2012-2013 school year. This year, Kemal will assume the role of vice president for the MSA at UMD. As Kemal currently serves as an MPAC intern, he plans to gain more knowledge about his surroundings, whether it be political or physical using his unique background of GIS to make a difference in his community.
