Meet L.A. Government & Civic Intern Hythem Sbita
June 27, 2014
Hythem Sbita has joined MPAC as an intern this summer in government relations and civic engagement in our Los Angeles office. He is currently a graduate student at Pepperdine University completing a Masters of Public Policy. He earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in International Relations with a focus on International Diplomacy and Peace Studies and a minor in Psychology from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.
A native of Dayton, Hythem worked diligently with several student organizations while earning his undergraduate degree. He has been known for his efforts in bridging the gap between cultural differences among international students and American students. Because of this, he was selected for the Global Citizen Award which is given out annually by Wright State’s international office. As a Libyan-American, Hythem has returned to Tripoli to visit relatives numerous times over the years, which has allowed him to gain a unique perspective in cultural relations.
Hythem hopes to use his skills and experience with multiculturalism to help build a bridge between the west and the Islamic world. He believes American Muslims are the key to this success and should take on bigger roles in the community to promote a platform for progressive change.
