Introducing "NewGround: A Muslim-Jewish Partnership" with a Week of Interfaith Events in L.A.

March 6, 2007

This week, the Muslim Public Affairs Council officially launches a new major initiative, "NewGround: A Muslim-Jewish Partnership for Change". The launch, which will be held at Los Angeles City Hall on Thursday, will be hosted by City Council President Eric Garcetti. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Sheriff Lee Baca, and prominent interfaith leaders will also be in attendance.

NewGround, a joint partnership with the Progressive Jewish Alliance (PJA), is an innovative long-term program dedicated to building meaningful relationships and fostering a strong sense of civic engagement amongst diverse groups of Muslims and Jews.

In honor of this milestone, MPAC & PJA will be hosting a week of interfaith events. Please join us to celebrate this new collaboration...

Thanksgiving Coffee: An Interfaith Collaboration in Uganda

Join us for an evening of stories from JJ Keki, an Abayudaya Jew who runs the Mirembe Kawomera Cooperative. This coffee-growing cooperative is a rare partnership compromised of Jews, Muslims, and Christians who have put Uganda's history of religious and tribal divides behind them.  Emphasizing respect and diversity, the Mirembe Kawomera Cooperative has built a strong leadership, with representation from all three faiths on its executive board. It is one of six smaller co-ops under the larger Gumutindo Cooperative, which brings together over 2,400 Ugandan farmers.
