MPAC Signs onto D.C. Area Civic Engagement Program

October 24, 2007

MPAC joins other Washington, D.C. area organizations in supporting a program on Thursday, November 1 sponsored by the South Asian American Leaders of Tomorrow (SAALT) entitled "Civic Engagement Community Dialogue for DC Area South Asians." The program is intended to provide community members with a forum for discussing local concerns such as immigration and hate crime. Furthermore, the program will teach participants how to be involved in the civic and political process in order to be proactive on important issues. Participants will also have the opportunity to hear from organizations serving the Washington, D.C. area such as MPAC to discuss ways we can work together on measures they are taking in these and other issues and how they can help facilitate local action and dialogue.

In addition to MPAC, the other organizations serving in partnership with SAALT's civic engagement event are: APIA Vote, ASHA for Women, Bangladeshi American Federation Inc. (BAFI), Counselors Helping Asian/Indians (CHAI), Foundation for Appropriate and Immediate Temporary Help (FAITH Social Services), KhushDC, Muslimat Al-Nisaa, Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDEF), South Asian Public Health Association-DC (SAPHA), Sri Lankan Association of Washington DC, and the Virginia Muslim Political Action Committee (VMPAC).

Please review the flyer for additional details on the event. We look forward to seeing you on November 1st. If you are interested in attending this workshop, please contact MPAC in Washington, D.C. at (202) 547-7701.
