MPAC Hosts "I am Change" Leadership Program
October 5, 2010
MPAC and the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) Center hosted an "I Am Change" Civic Leadership workshop, a two-day training and planning program which brought together more than 35 members of the Muslim community in the Northern Virginia area to discuss civic engagement.
The group also discussed the importance of ensuring that community voices are heard in this current Islamophobic environment. Participants took part in an engaging workshop to learn how local, state and federal government works. Hands-on activities were conducted to give real-life experience to participants who want to ensure that their elected officials hear their voice.
MPAC launched the "I Am Change" Civic Leadership program earlier this year as a service project providing resources to communities across the country on how to engage various segments of government and civil society.
Watch a short video below introducing "I Am Change."
The "I am Change" workshop provides tools and resources to community members on: - how to effectively engage government officials on the local, state and federal level- how to frame issue communities care about- how to better understand the media and engage coalition partners.
