'I Am Change Workshop' Follows up with Masjid Gibrael community
October 31, 2014
MPAC’s follow up civic engagement workshop this past weekend had an amazing turnout. MPAC President Salam-Al-Marayati and MPAC I Am Change fellow Abeer Gaber followed up with Masjid Gibrael about how Muslim communities can fully engage themselves in the community.
By following the step ladder approach that was originally created by MPAC’s Senior Advisor Dr. Hathout, which is presence, respect, acceptance, and influence, the audience was shown how to make an impact in their local community through interactive exercises and strategy charts.
“Islam requires us to promote positive change and participating in civic engagement is part of our Islamic duty, said Al-Marayati.
The interactive exercises allowed members of the community to express the issues or concerns they had and the participants were able to channel their issues into topics that can be discussed in a more civic setting.
“We had a great turnout for this workshop and everyone was really engaged. We look forward to strengthening our relationship with Masjid Gibrael in the future, said Gaber.
