''I Am Change' Inspires Californian Youth to Get Involved
October 31, 2011
Recently, Civic Outreach Coordinator Saadia Khan, and Communications Coordinator Marium Mohiuddin led an “I Am Change” workshop with the California State University, Northridge, Muslim Student Association (MSA) and the Islamic Center of Southern California’s youth group.
Many youth groups nationwide are scheduling “I Am Change” workshops in order to learn how to be effective and thoughtful speakers and activists on their college campuses. Khan and Mohiuddin led the students in hands-on exercises and taught them how to engage in dialogue about controversial issues and disagreements, including “Occupy Wall Street” and the upcoming presidential elections.
“It is important to equip these young future leaders with the right tools to help them achieve and be successful in their goals as active citizens,” said Khan.
"I Am Change" is about active citizenship. It's about each of us embracing our rights as Muslim Americans to work with decision makers in our local communities, in our state legislatures, and in Congress to shape better policies.
Please get in touch with us today to schedule an "I Am Change" workshop in your community by calling 323-258-6722 or emailing us at iamchange@mpac.org.
