MPAC Mourns Loss of American Icon Casey Kasem

June 19, 2014

MPAC is deeply saddened by the loss of Arab American icon Casey Kasem. MPAC President Salam Al-Marayati shares his memories of him:

"The MPAC Media Awards was Casey's idea. He started it by suggesting to honor Morgan Freeman in 1992. We honored him and producers of ‘Robin Hood.’ Casey also hosted the event honoring Spike Lee for ‘Malcolm X.’ Casey helped us incredibly in shaping a positive message about Muslims and Arabs, and he initiated engagement between us and Hollywood. We are indebted to him for helping in getting our voices heard.

"America is indebted to him for his contributions in entertainment and for his bridge building for understanding. It's only fitting that Casey Kasem passed away on a Sunday morning when millions of listeners had tuned into his Top 40 hits program for decades. His eloquent voice will always resonate with us. May God reward you for all the good you created, Casey."
