Muslim Man Named Michiganian of the Year
May 20, 2010

Victor Ghalib Begg
Last week, the Detroit News named Victor Ghalib Begg one of its Michiganians of the Year in honor of his work to share Islam and promote unity in Metro Detroit.
Begg has been a huge part of efforts by local Muslims to teach the area and the world about Islam. He's helped organize open houses for non-Muslims at local mosques, and he participated in a federal courthouse rally to condemn the alleged attempted Christmas Day bombing of an airliner over Detroit by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab.
Begg was honored last month by Wayne State University with a Community Peacemaker Award by the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies.
"Imagine working with someone as patient, competent, dedicated, dogged and well-connected as Victor who says to you: 'Just tell me what you need to get done, and I will do it." Bruttell says.
