MPAC today expressed its opposition to a bill in the Maryland State House of Delegates that allows military contractors to renew their driver's licenses while living outside the United States. House Bill 201 (PDF file), known as the Blackwater Bill, would carve out a third exception for military contractors - including individuals working for companies accused of fraud, abuse and illegality. "It makes little sense why mercenaries like Blackwater are getting these privileges while hardworking government employees like our Foreign Service officers and government global aid workers are ignored," said MPAC Government Liaison Alejandro Beutel.
