9/11: Remembrance and Reflection

September 11, 2009

The ultimate goal of the 9/11 terrorists was to weaken the very mosaic that brings together the many diverse faces representing the American experience. The tragic events were meant to disrupt the common destiny we as Americans share, and to ignite the disease of mistrust and suspicion towards each other.

Each year as we pause to remember the fallen and the heroes who turned this tragedy into triumph, we must also reflect on the path we have carved for ourselves as we move forward. We must strengthen our ability to protect our nation and deepen our resolve that our freedoms and sense of common destiny will not change.

The President today reminded us of that common purpose that we experienced immediately following 9/11,

"Indeed, amid the carnage and heartbreak of that tragic day in September, we also experienced a profound sense of community and witnessed a vivid display of those values, as first responders raced toward chaos, as Americans lined up to donate blood, as young people signed up to serve their country - as old divides seemed to fade away and America stood as one."

Now eight years later, we as a country face many daunting challenges including an economic crisis, two wars and fixing a broken healthcare system. In the midst of our current challenges, we must recapture the common purpose that allows us to overcome these obstacles and remain united. Now more than ever, we need to come together as a nation to remind each other that it is in the service of our communities and country that we will rediscover our unity.

The President declared 9/11 a day of remembrance and service. As a result, communities across the nation are working together despite their ideological persuasions to serve their neighbors and communities; and to strengthen the American mosaic, so that the intent of those who attacked us eight years ago will not be realized.

MPAC will continue to work towards strengthening our nation and preserving the freedoms and liberties that make our country great. We will continue to serve the call of God and country in ensuring a freer, more prosperous and more just society for Americans and everyone around the globe.
