MPAC Discusses Immigration Reform with Congressman Becerra
April 15, 2010
Congressman Xavier Becerra
Last week, Hala Alfi, Vice Chair of the Board of the Islamic Center of Southern California and myself, met with Congressman Xavier Becerra and several different faith leaders in his district. Given that immigration reform is positioned to be the next big issue in Washington during the next eight weeks, the Inter-Faith group shared concerns about upcoming legislation and greater coordination strategies.
As the issue picks up steam, it will be important for all constituents to read up on immigration reform. A good resource of information for a legislative fix is a report issued by the Center for American Progress issued in December 2009, the report gives a brief overview of the history of immigration, discussed current issues and makes recommendations based on the current reality and historical analysis.
Other resources, which track current events on immigration reform include, America's Voice and the Interfaith Immigration Coalition. Both sites offer platforms for talking points and information sharing.
