Letter to Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei,

Your Holiness Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei,

As-salaamu alaykum wa rahmat Allah wa barakat,

I start by expressing the gratitude of Allah, asking Him to shower his peace and blessings on the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his family and followers.

Motivated by love for Islam, respect for the Islamic Republic of Iran, and dedication to protect the image of Islam in the eyes of the world and in the eyes of our new generations, we are very disturbed by what is happening in Syria. We believe that the running river of blood and the cruelty taking place there day after day transcend geopolitics or tactical interests.

Regardless to who may judge or misjudge for being right or wrong, the fact is that the enormous suffering of innocent people and of children is threatening our collectively humanity. We are very disturbed that Iran, with all the respect and weight it carries in the region, is not exerting the proportionate pressure necessary to stop the massacre of innocent people.

We ask you, Imam, to speak up for humanity for the people of Syria, based on the basic values of Islam that the republic carries in its name. We ask you to insist that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad allow humanitarian aid and medical access to the victims, and to have the area opened to local and national media, as the worst crimes are committed behind closed doors.

We thank you and we ask God to guide us all to what is pleasing to Him.

Sincerely,

Maher Hathout
