ICSC Symposium on Humanitarian Aid to the Arab Spring

September 14, 2011

With the birth of the Arab Spring, this past year has proved to be a tumultuous year for the Middle East and North Africa. Many lives have been lost during this social unrest, and challenges have risen to aid efforts and people in need.

To address the humanitarian action in regards to the Arab Spring, the Islamic Center of Southern California (ICSC), in cooperation with MPAC and Muslims Establishing Communities in America (MECA), is hosting a free International Symposium by the American Red Cross on Saturday, Sept. 17.

Dr. Maher Hathout, MPAC's Senior Adviser and the Spokesperson of the ICSC; Ashar Shah, Helping Hand for Relief and DevelopmentDr. James Gelvin, Professor of History at Univeristy of California, Los Angeles; and speakers from the world of academia, international practitioners, the Red Cross and the Muslim community will offer multiple perspectives on the challenges being experienced on the ground levels with regards to aid efforts.

The event will be from noon - 4 p.m. and snacks will be served.

We look forward to spending a Saturday with you and your family while enjoying this very interesting event that affects our Muslim brothers and sisters in the countries moved by the social movements.
