ACTION ALERT: Take Action on Gaza Today

July 21, 2014

In an effort to halt the suffering of the people of Gaza, the Muslim Public Affairs Council encourages American Muslims to leverage the power of the last ten days of Ramadan by participating in the “10-10-100” Campaign, a national effort launched today to “create immediate and real change for the people of Gaza.”

Israel’s brutal military assault on Gaza has led to the death of over 560 Palestinians to date, with the U.N. reporting that more than 80 percent of those killed were civilians. The death toll has more than doubled since Israel’s ground invasion began on Thursday.

MPAC calls on all people of conscience to speak up on behalf of Palestinians who have been treated as silent statistics instead of innocent human lives.

Tens of thousands of people have participated in pro-Palestine demonstrations around the world. However, according to MPAC’s contacts, no Muslim or Palestinian group has requested a meeting with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee or the State Department to date. Making a change on a policy level requires direct engagement with policymakers to make a direct call for policy changes desperately needed to stop the bloodshed and provide humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.

Please take these three steps to speak up and stand up for Palestinian human rights:

1. Pray for 10 Days
The last 10 nights of Ramadan are spiritually significant for Muslims, particularly the Night of Power, which is described in the Quran as "better than a thousand months" (97:3). Regardless of your faith, please pray for peace in Gaza according to your own spiritual tradition.

2. Contact 10 Public Officials
Call or email the public officials listed here, including the White House and the Senate and House Foreign Relations Committees, to call on them to take immediate action to end the suffering of innocent Palestinian civilians. Respectfully call for:

  • An immediate ceasefire before Eid Al-Fitr, which will allow the people of Gaza to mourn their losses and mark the holiday in peace.
  • Immediate humanitarian aid to help rebuild the vast number of homes and infrastructure destroyed by Israeli forces in Gaza.
  • Egypt to open the Rafah Crossing and allow desperately needed aid to get through.
  • An end to the siege on Gaza with a comprehensive and durable agreement between the Israelis and Palestinians.
  • A Congressional resolution expressing condolences and solidarity with the large number of children killed in this conflict.

3. Donate $100 or more
The “10-10-100” Campaign has selected globally respected and vetted charities that have a proven track record in Palestine. Please choose a charity and donate $100 or more to help provide humanitarian aid to those impacted.
