Nobel Prize Winner Muhammad Yunus to Receive MPAC's Human Security Award in March

MPAC announced today that 2007 Nobel Prize Winner Muhamad Yunus, founder of the Grameen Bank, will be presented with MPAC's 2nd Annual Human Security Award in New York City on Sunday, March 9, 2008.

The MPAC Human Security Award was created to honor the contributions of extraordinary individuals who protect and empower the world's most vulnerable populations.

Dr. Muhamad Yunus was honored with the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize for his "efforts to create economic and social benefit from below" by helping to establish the microcredit movement across the developing world.

In a time where poverty is reaching its highest level, Dr. Yunus is combating poverty in most vulnerable part of the world. With the drive and determination that Dr. Yunus and the Grameen Bank have exhibited in combating poverty, the world has surely been made a better place.

Dr. Yunus founded the Grameen Bank in 1983 in order to combat poverty. Using the principle of microcredit, the bank provides small loans to the poor based on terms that suit their needs. The bank also established a system to teach loan recipients the basics of healthy financial practices so that they can help themselves in the future.
