Lekovic to Speak at ICUJP Luncheon on Gitmo

January 15, 2014

On Wednesday, Jan. 15, Edina Lekovic, MPAC's Director of Policy and Programming, will be a respondent at the Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace's (ICUJP) Justice Luncheon. The luncheon will be a conversation with Andy Worthington, a journalist and historian based in London. Worthington is the author of "The Guantánamo Files" and the co-director of the documentary film, "Outside the Law: Stories from Guantanamo."

"The Guantánamo Files" allows prisoners to tell their own stories, explaining who they are and the circumstances of their capture. The book explores the administration’s stance that the prisoners are the “worst of the worst” and examines the human cost of the war on terror.

The luncheon will focus primarily on what Martin Luther King, Jr. would say about Guantánamo Bay Prison, solitary confinement and U.S.-sponsored torture. Worthington will present with opening remarks and the following will be respondents: Edina Lekovic and the Rev. Dr. Art Cribbs, Executive Director of the Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice - California. Buy your tickets today.
