During the Rwandan genocide, when neighbors killed neighbors and friends betrayed friends, the Mufti of Rwanda issued an edict forbidding Muslims from participating in the violence. As a result of his actions, mosques became places of refuge where Muslims and Christians, Hutus and Tutsis came together, crossing lines of hatred to protect each other - as a courageous expression of their faith. Kinyarwanda tells the interwoven stories of daily life as it went on during the genocide - of love, faith, struggle and forgiveness - based on true accounts from those who took shelter - and survived to tell their stories.
