What Brings You to Your Feet?

October 31, 2017

Dear [FNAME],

We have several exciting updates about our annual Convention!

Rev. Dr. William Barber has brought thousands of people to their feet with his rousing speeches and sermons calling on all people of conscience to stand up and protect each other. Watch the video above for a small taste before his keynote speech at the Convention.

Dr. John Esposito, professor and founding director of the Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown, has played a key role in raising the status of American Muslims in public affairs. A member of our Advisory Council, Dr. Esposito uses his expertise to clarify misconceptions about Islam, defend free speech, and dive into the complexities of religion, race and culture.

Comedian Mo Amer recently made his network debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. He made international headlines with his story of a chance encounter being seated next to Eric Trump. Mo is a man with many experiences: comedian, refugee, Muslim and all-American.

Each year we honor “Changemakers” whose trailblazing work leads to greater inclusion of American Muslims. This year’s honorees are Dr. Heather Laird, and Steve and Judy Gilliland.

Dr. Laird is the Director of the Center for Muslim Mental Health and Islamic Psychology at USC. Her counseling services reduce stigmas around mental health, and strengthen vulnerable individuals and underserved minorities. Steve and Judy Gilliland have built an incredible bridge between the Mormon Church and American Muslim communities through their work at the Southern California Public Affairs Council of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

I look forward to seeing you there. If you are part of our Donor Circle, you can reserve your complimentary tickets by contacting Raahima Shoaib at raahima@mpac.org.

Salam Al-Marayati
