Watch Our Hollywood Work in Action

December 19, 2017

Dear Friend,

From a young age, I remember the power that television and film had to change my perception of different people and places. I deeply admired the work of MPAC co-founders Salam Al-Marayati and the late Dr. Maher Hathout. They were champions of social justice and I wanted to be one, too. After years of climbing the corporate ladder, I joined MPAC to pursue my passion for changing the narrative about Islam and Muslims in the entertainment industry.

Laws protect us, but they don’t change hearts and minds. Stories do that. 2018 marks our 30-year anniversary. Will you support our work to transform the perceptions of Islam and Muslims? Please donate $250 towards our $100,000 year-end goal.

Here is what the Hollywood Bureau has done in the last few months:

  • As the first Muslim organization to host a panel at the Sundance Film Festival, we continue to be the go-to industry partner on stories about Islam and Muslims.
  • Along with Oprah Winfrey and Jordan Peele, I was named in Variety’s Inclusion Impact Report as one of 60 changemakers making the entertainment industry more inclusive.
  • We published op-eds in leading publications such as The Hollywood Reporter and Variety to create more authentic Muslim narratives.
  • Our Hollywood Summit brought emerging Muslim talent to Disney, CBS, YouTube, and the Sundance Institute to foster careers in the industry.

I work at MPAC because I want a future where all American Muslims are not just tolerated, but accepted, respected, and celebrated.

Support us with a gift of $250.

Forward. Together. 30 years strong.

Sue Obeidi
Director of the MPAC Hollywood Bureau
