Wrap Up: 2018 Policy & Media Summit

July 28, 2018

This time last week a small but powerful group of Young Leaders left Washington D.C. equipped with the knowledge, tools and confidence to be the changemakers of the future. The 2018 MPAC Policy & Media Summit taught them everything they needed to know to be successful in their future careers as future Senators, Journalists, Foreign Service Officers, CEOs and so much more.

Day 1:

The Summit delegates spent the first day being trained by MPAC President Salam Al-Marayati and Staff in preparation for the next few days of rigorous meetings around DC.

Day 2:

“Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t write a story and express your passions. At the end of the day, we’re all humans and you can’t put your emotions in a box and file them away.”

Delegates learned the importance of media, tech and NGO’s in the policy-making space as they met with industry leaders at Google HQ, NPR, The Aspen Institute, Oxfam, New America, and Fahmy Hudome International.

Day 3:

“Who’s gonna do the work if WE don’t. If we choose to disengage, our opportunities become few and far between. There are opportunities for you to make a difference and make an impact.”

Congressional Advisor, State Department

Day 3 was packed with workshops, meetings and more exposure for these Young Leaders. MPAC Staff walked them through networking, op-ed writing and much more. The delegates also met with Senator Elizabeth Warren’s staff, Poligon National, and had a meeting at the State Department with several staffers.

Day 4:

Delegates spent some more time on the Hill with Senator Cory Booker and Senator Kamala Harris after spending a morning at the Department of Justice.
