SoCal Muslims Show Gratitude To Frontline Workers

MPAC thanks our healthcare heros for their service

June 9, 2020

From the laundry and janitorial staff to the doctors and nurses treating and caring for patients and frontline workers have been the backbone of our country in the past couple of months. Healthcare professionals have even been volunteering to treat protestors who have been hurt by tear gas and rubber bullets in the past weeks. While most of us have had the privilege to safely work from home during this pandemic, MPAC wanted to express our gratitude to these heroic frontline workers. We approached the Islamic Society of West Valley, the Islamic Center of Northridge, and the Islamic Center of Southern California, with our idea and together we launched this campaign to show our gratitude.

Within a few hours, we had raised over $2500 dollars to provide 270 meals for the staff at Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills Medical Center. We decided to take this further and support some local small businesses and reached out to two local Muslim-owned restaurants, New York Chicken & Gyro and Shish Mediterranean Cuisine, to provide us with the meals. Our Digital Director, Hasain Syed, went personally to thank the hospital staff ranging from doctors and nurses to receptionists and janitors in the ER, COVID-response, and health and wellness departments for all their efforts and sacrifices on behalf of SoCal Muslims.

MPAC is advocating Congress to provide essential workers, not just in Southern California but across the nation, with personal protective equipment, healthcare, and paid leave through our Human Security Campaign.
