MPAC's Hollywood Bureau in 2020

January 22, 2020

Art imitates life” has to be the understatement of the year in entertainment. We are resolved to continue pushing toward more authentic and nuanced narratives as more underrepresented communities are being portrayed on television and film.

We will partner on a panel at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and host the 4th in our series of Screenwriting Labs for Muslim creatives. Our work with studios, networks, guilds, production companies, and partner organizations in the work of inclusion strengthens our networks to improve the quality - and quantity - of Muslim representations on screen.

Diversity Hall of Honors

In the first week of this year, MPAC’s Hollywood Bureau was inducted into the Advancing Diversity Hall of Honors. This premiere industry event recognized our work to advance diversity, equality, and inclusion in entertainment. Other honorees this year included Walt Disney Television and ADCOLOR.

Sundance Institute Partner Panel with Peace is Loud

Heading to Sundance? Join us for a partner panel with Peace is Loud on Monday, January 27th, which coincides with the third anniversary of the Muslim Ban. Our discussion about representation and movement building will center around Adam Zucker's timely documentary, American Muslim.

Children's Media Screenwriting Lab with Practice Wonder!

Representation matters from an early age, and children of all baackgrounds deserve to see themselves reflected on screen. We are thrilled to partner with Practice Wonder on a Children's Media Screenwriting Lab this spring. This day-long intensive will bring Children's television professionals together with Muslim screenwriters to work on their scripts, pitch their projects, and network in the industry.

Media Awards

This spring, we will host our 29th annual Media Awards honoring artists, actors, activists, and executives who use art and media to create authentic, nuanced portrayals of Islam and Muslims, promote inclusion, social justice, and inspire action. Thank you to all who have submitted their nominations. We will keep you posted on who we will be honoring this year!

This is just a glimpse of the year ahead. Our work is driven by the Islamic and American principles of mercy, justice, and human dignity for all. We will continue working toward an America that reflects these ideals.
