Ramadan Mubarak! As the presidential primary season draws to a close, I want to share with you some of the work we’ve been doing to make the American Muslim perspective and voice heard during this election cycle.

We organized a roundtable discussion on national security with Hillary Clinton, led a town hall discussion on Islamophobia with the Bernie Sanders campaign, and challenged Donald Trump to debate his statements that American Muslims should be registered and banned from entering our country. This work enables American Muslims to speak confidently about policies that affect us, so that our government treats us more equitably.

Community development is the only way to ensure sustainable political engagement of American Muslims. To that end, we’ve conducted our special elections edition of our I Am Change: Political and Civic Engagement Program in communities nationwide, and will continue to run this program through the general election in November. We are ensuring our civil rights by embracing our civic responsibilities.
