Adel Kamal: I tell stories that touch emotions

May 23, 2018

Ramadan Mubarak!

My name is Adel Kamal, and MPAC’s Hollywood Bureau (HB) introduced me to the inner workings of the entertainment industry. Through the Hollywood Summit, screenwriting workshops, panel discussions, and industry roundtables, MPAC has supported my journey to become a filmmaker every step of the way.

Growing up, I didn’t see my reality reflected on screen. I became a screenwriter because stories invite others into new worlds, ones that are often overlooked or unfairly criticized by those who have never seen them. My goal is to introduce characters and storylines from these worlds to new audiences, to elicit emotional responses from joy to frustration, ecstasy to even devastation. The HB’s programs provide support, mentorship, access, and opportunities for young Muslim filmmakers like me to blossom.

Please consider a gift of $250 to MPAC to help continue the HB’s work in injecting more American Muslim talent in Hollywood. Your donation is zakat-eligible, tax-deductible, and deeply appreciated.

As the recipient of the inaugural MPAC and Mike Mosallam Productions (MMP) Short Film Fellowship, I hope to continue my journey of telling stories that touch emotions, increase understanding, and leave audiences wanting more. I am #HungryForChange.

MPAC remains a bastion of hope for those infusing positivity in our society, and a stronghold for the voiceless and underrepresented, in life and on screen. This Ramadan, please consider a $250 gift to MPAC. And keep an eye out for my films on the big screen someday, God willing!
