Announcing COVID-19 Limited Series Screenwriting Contest!
April 20, 2020
On behalf of MPAC’s Hollywood Bureau, we pray that you and your families are safe, healthy, and supporting each other through this crisis. The COVID-19 Pandemic will pass, and whatever the “new normal” is, we hope that it is bolstered by deepened spirituality, great health, and continuing dedication to writing meaningful stories.
We believe that great stories, reflecting the best in humanity, are born in hardship and adversity. We want to help you continue honing your screenwriting skills during this time of social distancing and self-isolation. To this end, MPAC’s Hollywood Bureau is announcing a TV Pilot for a Limited Series contest. We all have stories about how each of us, our families, friends, and communities have been impacted by COVID-19 and how we are getting through this situation. Sharing those stories can provide needed solidarity and connection in these trying times.
What’s in it for you?
The top ten scripts will be read by our industry partners to help determine the winner. The winning writer will receive feedback on their script, as well as screenwriting career insights from Grainne Godfree, an Executive Producer of DC's Legends of Tomorrow in a 90-minute Zoom session. Out of respect for the economic impact of the pandemic, there is no application fee.
Qualifications:
- The script must be set in the time of the Coronavirus pandemic.
- The screenwriter identifies as Muslim (or at least one of the writers identifies as Muslim if applying as a writing team).
- The script contains at least one character that identifies as Muslim and is an integral part of the story arc.
- The script can be any genre, and while it can contain levity, it should not make light of the serious consequences around the virus.
- Submitted scripts must be no more than 30 pages.
- Scripts must be registered with the Writers Guild of America.
Submit your scripts by May 15, 2020 with your full name and phone number to hollywood@mpac.org.
We look forward to reading your submissions! Wishing you and yours a Ramadan Mubarak. May you always be safe and healthy.
