America Has Been a Beacon of Hope

July 4, 2017

Dear Friend,

As we commemorate Independence Day, we reflect on our nation’s origins and the values that contributed to the founding of America. We are challenging our nation to continue the pursuit of the principles enshrined in the Declaration of Independence. It is our sacred duty to protect and stand up for one another - this is what it means to be an American.

On Thursday, the Trump Administration’s Muslim ban went back into effect. We filed legal briefs in the two Muslim ban cases and we will file again to help sway public opinion and the Supreme Court against this executive order. Along with our fellow Americans, we have led the struggle to protect the most vulnerable. We will continue our work to uphold civil liberties in the face of these un-American and ineffective policies.

rulings in the Muslim ban cases

Our message that the Muslim ban is about politics and not national security policy has been loud and clear on CNN and Fox News. In fact, if the ban had been in place over the last 20 years, it would have saved zero lives from terrorism.

As our Vice President Omar Noureldin told Tucker Carlson on Fox News, “refugees want to come to America because they're desperate to live, not die." Since its founding, America has been a sanctuary and beacon of hope for immigrants escaping persecution. Over 200 years after our nation's founding, let us stay true to that and promote the best of our American and Islamic values -- mercy, justice, human dignity, freedom, and equality for all.
