Airbnb Removes Israeli Settlement Listings

We applaud Airbnb for their decision to remove rentals on illegal settlements from their platform.

November 19, 2018

Earlier this summer, we approached Airbnb, the home-rental service, on their policy allowing rentals in Israeli settlements. We shared our concerns that the policy hinders efforts to reach a peaceful solution by normalizing the illegal presence of Israeli settlements on Palestinian land. We strongly advised Airbnb to change this dangerous policy.

Today, we are happy to report that Airbnb accepted our recommendation and is removing all Israeli settlement listings!

With over 150 million users and 640,000 hosts, Airbnb’s global impact in connecting cultures and elevating local experiences is clear. We will continue to work with Airbnb and other tech companies to ensure that policies are reflective of domestic and international law based on a human rights framework. We applaud Airbnb for their decision to remove rentals on illegal settlements from their platform and hope that their leadership will be seen and duplicated by other home-sharing platforms.
