Celebrating 25 Years of the Media Awards

There was only one place to be on Sunday, April 24th in Los Angeles, and that was at the 25th annual MPAC Media Awards. Our gala honors people and projects using art and media to create enriching and humanizing portrayals of Islam and Muslims.

Thank you to the 600 people (and many more who could not attend the sold-out event) who joined us in recognizing four inspiring "Voices of Courage and Conscience." The audience was moved to laughter and tears as the honorees shared glimpses into their lives and the passions that drive them. Watch the videos introducing each honoree and their acceptance speeches.

Our honorees:

GEORGE TAKEI
A tireless advocate for racial equality and civil rights.

HASAN MINHAJ
Comedian, “The Daily Show” correspondent and creator of the powerful off-Broadway show “Homecoming King,” which tackles issues of identity, interracial love, and integration.

SALAM NEIGHBOR
An award-winning documentary that gives us a never-before-seen view into the lives of Syrian refugees.

A GIRL IN THE RIVER: THE PRICE OF FORGIVENESS
This 2016 Oscar-winning documentary tackles honor killings in Pakistan. After watching it himself, the country's Prime Minister pledged stricter laws to punish offenders.
