February 28, 2025 Articles

This past weekend was a powerful reminder of what happens when we come together to engage, connect, and inspire. From high-level discussions on leadership and global impact to welcoming a distinguished ambassador and fostering new professional networks, MPAC was proud to be at the heart of meaningful conversations that shape our community’s future.

Here’s a look at the key moments from the weekend:

Participating in a panel at the Concordia Forum

MPAC President Salam Al-Marayati participated as a panelist at the Concordia Forum policy conference on February 21st, engaging in a crucial discussion on the role of American Muslims in the second Trump administration. The conference, Bridging Divides, Strengthening Unity: American Muslims and the Next Chapter of U.S. Policy, provided a bipartisan platform to address key policy challenges. Salam emphasized the intersection of free speech and religious liberty, warning against efforts to redefine anti-Semitism to silence pro-Palestinian voices. He also highlighted the contradiction of an administration advocating for Christian rights while enacting policies that silence Christians in Gaza. His participation underscored the vital role of American Muslims in shaping U.S. policy, reaffirming MPAC’s commitment to justice and religious freedom for all.

Reception to Welcome South African Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool

On Saturday, February 22nd, MPAC had the honor of hosting Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool, South Africa’s Ambassador to the United States, for a powerful conversation on the current political climate, his experiences working alongside Nelson Mandela, and the lessons of South Africa’s struggle for justice. In a dialogue with MPAC President Salam Al-Marayati, Ambassador Rasool reflected on the resilience of movements for human dignity and the importance of moral leadership in times of division. His insights offered a profound perspective on the challenges facing American democracy today and the role of faith communities in advancing justice. This event reinforced MPAC’s commitment to fostering meaningful discussions that bridge historical wisdom with present-day advocacy.

Muslim, Arab, and Allies Policy Professionals Reception

On Saturday evening, MPAC co-sponsored the Muslim, Arab, and Allies Policy Professionals Reception in downtown Washington, D.C., alongside Emgage, MAPS, and DAWN-MENA. This inspiring gathering brought together policymakers, advocates, and public servants to celebrate the growing influence of Muslim, Arab, and allied professionals in shaping policy and advancing justice. Distinguished speakers, including Fayrouz Saad, Hady Amr, Laila ElGohary, and Raheemah Abdulaleem, shared insights from their careers in public service, reflecting on the progress our communities have made in civic engagement and the challenges ahead. The evening fostered meaningful conversations, strengthened professional connections, and reinforced the collective commitment to navigating the next chapter together. MPAC remains dedicated to building strong partnerships that amplify the voices of Muslim and Arab communities in the policy arena.
